Global Warming Hoax

Is there such thing as global warming hoax? Is global warming just one big joke made up by a bunch of crazy tree huggers? Global hoax number one is that global warming is a myth. Global warming is very real and as per the definition given in wikipedia.org it "refers to the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation." The average air temperature near the Earth's surface has increased with almost 1°C during the last century, and this effect is mostly due to the increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations.

The next big global warming hoax is that we are too small to have any effect on the planet's climate. That could have been true a few centuries ago, but now, with all of buildings, plants, factories, gasoline-powered transportation system and enormous number of population, we are definitely affecting the climate. The most difficult question to be answered is whether further growth in either population or economic activity is tolerable. On one hand many environmental scientists warn that human activities are overwhelming the basic life-support systems of the biosphere. They call for a "steady state" economic system that will minimize our impact on the environment. On the other hand economic growth is a way to bring the underdeveloped nations up to a higher standard of living. Economic Growth is also necessary to provide funds to clean up the environmental damage caused by earlier, more primitive technologies and misguided resource uses.

Some global warming hoax theorists seem to believe that we have nothing to do with the increased amounts of cO2 in the atmosphere. But fact is that, the impact of toxic chemicals is already widespread-the average person today carries levels of lead that are 500-1,000 times higher than our pre-industrial ancestors, and worldwide some 300-500 million tons of hazardous wastes are generated each year. Post-Stockholm, the global community faces a dual challenge: reforming an enormous sector of the industrial economy while also taking action on the toxic materials that exist now either as waste or as commodities circulating in the economy.

Another widespread global warming hoax is that a temperature increase of just one degree Celsius for a whole century is nothing to worry about. Unfortunately this is not the case. our planet is one big ecosystem, in which a small inbalance causes a lot of problems. Instabilities increase a system's vulnerability to extreme conditions and catastrophic events, such as floods and droughts, and also reduces the sustainability and productivity of the region. In addition such "natural" disasters are enormously costly to human life and economies. Conversely, as biodiversity increases in an ecosystem so too does the stability and resilience of that ecosystem.

Think about the following - our children will inherit the planet with whatever biodiversity we pass on to them. Global warming is not a hoax! It's absolutely real! The decisions we make as individuals and as a society today will determine the diversity of genes, species, and ecosystems that remain in the future.
